Grant Overview

The Upper Red Lake Area Association is administering the KEEP IT CLEAN 2025 grant to support public education, outreach, and responsible winter recreation practices that help keep garbage and waste off the ice and out of Upper Red Lake.

Ice is no place for garbage and waste. Every angler, fish house user, resort, outfitter, business, visitor, and community partner has a role in protecting Upper Red Lake.

Grant Purpose and Public Benefit

Clean Water Protection

KEEP IT CLEAN 2025 supports public awareness and prevention efforts to reduce garbage, litter, and waste left on the ice before it can enter Upper Red Lake during snowmelt and spring thaw.

Responsible Winter Recreation

The project promotes respectful winter lake use by sharing clear reminders with anglers, fish house users, visitors, businesses, and local partners.

Project Activities

  • Public education about removing garbage and waste from the ice.

  • Community outreach to anglers, fish house users, resorts, outfitters, businesses, and visitors.

  • Distribution and display of Keep It Clean public awareness messaging.

  • Promotion of clean water stewardship and responsible winter recreation.

  • Coordination with local partners to improve visibility of waste-prevention messages.
