Join the Save Upper Red Lake for All Coalition

ADD YOUR NAME: For generations, Upper Red Lake has been one of Minnesota's most cherished natural resources. Each year, tens of thousands of visitors, from across the state and around the world, come to Northern Minnesota to enjoy Upper Red Lake, utilizing the public access points maintained and preserved by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Transfer of the state-owned portions of Upper Red Lake to the closed Red Lake Nation would restrict public access to this waterway and have a catastrophic impact on our local communities.

We, the undersigned residents, property and business owners, and concerned citizens, respectfully express our opposition to any transfer of portions of Upper Red Lake presently owned by the State of Minnesota to the closed Indian reservation of the Red Lake Nation.

We respectfully call on all local, state, and federal leaders to:

  • Oppose any transfer of state-owned land in the vicinity of Upper Red Lake to the Red Lake Nation.

  • Oppose any legislation, at the state or federal level, that would facilitate, ease, or finance such a transfer.

  • Ensure that any future decisions regarding the lake and its resources involve full consultation with all affected stakeholders.

  • Protect public access to Upper Red Lake for future generations and ensure the continued viability of local residents and businesses that depend on its use.

  • Support environmental stewardship that balances the interests of all communities, including residents, businesses, visitors, and the Red Lake Nation.
